Dimples Romana reminds her kids of accountability when using social media

In social media, one can easily fall prey and make mistakes, something which actress Dimples Romana is aware of. Because of this, she teaches her children to be responsible social media users.

Romana shared this when she was asked about the house rules she implements in her own home, during the online press conference for the series “Viral Scandal,” last Tuesday, Oct. 19.

“My rule at home is that you can make all the mistakes you like here in my house,” she said. “That way, bilang magulang ay ma-guide kita, ma-correct kita kasi mahirap kapag nakalabas ka na, nakaalpas na ang mga anak natin at doon pa lang niya malalaman kung ano ang mga dapat basic core values.”

(That way, as a parent, I can guide you, I can correct you, because it’s hard when you are already outside the home, when our children are already beyond our reach, and when only then would they know about the right basic core values.)

“Kahit naman ako. Wala na ako sa bahay ng nanay at tatay ko ay nagkakamali pa rin ako,” she admits. (I, too, still make mistakes. I am no longer living in the house of my mom and dad, and yet I still make mistakes.)

For Romana, it is important for her kids to know that everything they put out on social media, all the words that they use will have an impact on their family and on their friends.

“We have to be accountable for the things that we post online. We have to know that it is our responsibility whether [you’re a celebrity or not]. It will have an effect on somebody’s life or whoever is following you,” she stressed.

As a parent, Romana said “there is no tolerance of whatever sense of entitlement.”

“Anybody who would know my family will attest to this, na ‘yung mga rules namin sa bahay are quite unconventional but we go by the core basic Filipino family value which is respeto, tiwala at pagiging matapat. At kung magkakamali ka, akuin mo ang pagkakamali mo,” she explained.

Meanwhile, Romana’s latest project, “Viral Scandal,” tells the story of a young woman (Charlie Dizon) who figured in a sex scandal. It premieres on Nov. 15 on the Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, iWant TFC and A2Z channel 11. Aside from Dizon, Romana’s co-stars include Joshua Garcia, Jake Cuenca, Maxene Magalona, Kaila Estrada, Gian Magdangal and Markus Paterson. JB
