TV host and sportscaster Gretchen Ho was overjoyed as her bikes-for-workers cause got another boost from birthday girl, broadcaster Karen Davila, yet again.
“Second year celebrating @iamkarendavila’s birthday with her,” Ho said in her Instagram page yesterday, Nov. 21, where she showed a photo the bicycle recipients with Davila, singer Lyca Gairanod and vlogger Small Laude.
Ho shared that Davila’s celebration was capped by the handing of 45 bicycles to the hometown of Gairanod in Tanza, Cavite. Gairanod was also celebrating her birthday.
“Nothing like going back to your hometown and being able to help your own,” Ho said.
The bikes went to construction workers, factory workers, fish vendors, scrappers, gasoline boys, painters, and hospital and barangay staff.
“Makakatulong daw ito sa pagpasok nila sa trabaho. Mabuti’t nandyan din ang Bikers United Movement para turuan sila ng basics ng pagbibisikleta,” she added.
(They said this would help when they report for work. Glad there’s also the Bikers United Movement to teach them the basics of biking.)
Aside from the bicycles, the team distributed 10 smartphone plus loading kits and 10 pocket Wi-Fis for sari-sari stores and online sellers, courtesy of the PLDT-Smart Foundation.
“Maraming salamat din sa H&M sa mga brand new polo na nasama natin, at Illo’s Catering para sa mga stuffed toy at pauwing napakasarap na pagkain,” she said.
(Thank you H&M for the brand new clothes and Illo’s Catering for the stuffed toys and delicious take-home food.)
“What a meaningful way to celebrate your birthdays. Thank you for letting me and my team be part of it @womaninactionph,” she said. “Happy birthday @iamkarendavila @lycagairanod.1 may God bless you more, as you spread and share His light with others.”
Meanwhile, Ho launched her bike initiative during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic last year, to aid workers by providing them means of transportation to still reach their workplaces. Mass transportation was shut down by the government as part of efforts to curb the spread of the virus. JB
