Times are slowly changing yet again as we see a more active holiday season than the one last year. Still, with caution in mind, it seems we’re all set to make up for the time we’ve lost indoors. I can tell by the way traffic has become an issue we will confront this December to January.
I try to save on time by doing my makeup in the car. Or at the very least, I keep with me essentials so I can touch up easily as I transition from errands to a lunch or dinner. This is why I’ve collected a few must-have makeup items that will be easy to apply when you’re in the car. If you’re driving, think of safety first!
Above all else, before you start your makeup application, your hands should be extra clean. I recommend Skin by Talulah Natural Hand Sanitizer. It can “reduce bacteria and kill 99.99-percent germs on the skin while keeping them hydrated and supple,” according to the packaging. You can choose from three blends: Peppermint & Lime, Lemongrass & Lemon and Chamomile & Lavender.
Never forget sunblock. The Shiseido Clear Sunscreen Stick offers SPF 50 and unique WetForce x HeatForce technology. It “creates an invisible, lightweight protective veil that becomes more effective in water and heat.” Shiseido’s SynchroShield technology is also at play here as it “strengthens the protective layer upon exposure to heat from the sun, water and sweat.” The formula doesn’t leave skin with a white cast and is perfect to place over or under makeup, depending on your preference.
In general, traffic jam makeup essentials should come in stick form. You don’t have time to bother with brushes.
Dummy-proof
For eyes, I like the Sunnies Face Eyecrayon. Tagged as a “creamy matte do-it-all eyeshadow stick,” this product is dummy-proof. Use it to enhance your eye color as an eyeliner, choosing from their 10 flattering shades. Smudge it a little if you want an eyeshadow effect or even combine two different colors for your signature blend.
NARS The Multiple delivers color and sparkle in a unique cream-to-powder formula. You can use this for your eyes, lips, cheeks and even body. Copacabana is one of their best-selling shades that lends a wash of pink-pearl shine. If you want something that resembles a healthy blush, there’s the cult classic Orgasm. If you have a deeper skin tone, you will love the shades G-Spot and Na Pali Coast.
Being in the car, on top of the cold weather, leaves your lips dry. An effective product that delivers long-lasting moisture is the Clarins Lip Comfort Oil. Organic Jojoba and Hazelnut oil deliver lightweight and nonsticky hydration with a touch of color. Use it on its own or as a prep for your lips. You can also use it on top of your matte lipstick.
The love for the Clarins Lip Comfort Oil has launched other variations: Shimmer, for those who want that extra glimmer, and Intense, which has more color if you want to skip lipstick completely. Don’t forget a face mist. I’ve written about several over the years as it’s my favorite product that bridges skin care and makeup. A face mist gives hydration and can be used as a primer. It can also set your makeup. Sephora.ph has the Herbivore Botanicals Rose Hibiscus Hydrating Face Mist. This contains hyaluronic acid and boasts of vitamins to refresh your skin.
