Since she’s not consuming dairy milk often, actress and vlogger Bianca King decided to make cashew milk and share the process to her fans and followers on Instagram.
“This is something I’d like to do in my house because I try not to drink dairy all the time anymore. I still do sometimes but I prefer to do nut milk and cashew milk is one of the easiest to make because you don’t have to put it through a nut bag anymore,” she explained last Friday, Dec. 17. “You don’t have to strain it.”
All one has to do is soak the cashew overnight, then drain the water. She showed that for about half a cup of cashews and two cups of water, one can blend the mixture and come up with fresh, smooth milk.
“I don’t really have a recipe. I just kind of freestyle it and eyeball things as I go along. That’s why making cashew milk is easy to do at home and I highly recommend,” she said while blending the milk. She also added a little more cashew for a thicker mixture, some some salt and a little honey before blending it again.
“The longer you [blend it], the smoother it would be,” she stressed.
“If you haven’t made nut milk at home yet, save this post. Now is the time to start making fresh milk,” she also stated in her post.
“It’s always better to strain the pulp with a nut bag but blending is just fine too. You will just have the occasional nutty bit,” King added.
King noted that since cashews are also grown in the Philippines, it is “more affordable than almonds.”
“I like to mix cashew and macadamias for the flavor and creaminess,” she said, pointing out that “if you’re using cashew milk for coffee or soups, you’d want it a little creamier.”
“If you’re using it for cereal or smoothies, you can make it less creamy by adding more water. So easy,” she said, and posted her recipe.
King’s cashew milk ingredients are: 1/2 cup roasted cashews, soaked for 24 hours; 2 1/2 to 3 cups of water; one teaspoon of honey (optional); and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Those who want it creamier can also add 1/4 teaspoon Xanthan gum, she advised. JB
