Philippine bets earn accolades in online pageants

MAKATI CITY, Philippines — The Philippines once again asserted its reputation as a pageant powerhouse when two Filipino queens earned distinctions in pageants conducted online over the weekend.

Sheenary Tamagos was proclaimed as Special Queen Ambassador at the 2021 Miss Lumiere International World’s final competition on December 18. The contest is based in Singapore.

The Miss Lumiere International World crown went to the representative from Siberia. No Filipino woman has taken home the crown yet. The highest placement for the Philippines was Sammie Anne Legaspi’s first runner-up finish in 2017.

Keinth Petrasanta, meanwhile, was crowned Miss South East Asia Tourism Ambassadress in the 2021/2022 Miss Tourism International pageant held online on December 19.

The Philippines is the most successful country in the Malaysia-based pageant with five winners, the most recent of whom was Cyrille Payumo who won in 2019.

Jessy Silana Wongsodiharjo from Indonesia bagged the crown in this year’s competition, while Lily Ann Sofia Korpela from Finland was proclaimed Miss Tourism Queen of the Year International.

Hoang Thi Huong Ly from Vietnam was Miss Tourism Metropolitan International, Toluwalope Olarewaju from Nigeria was Miss Tourism Global, How Zo Ee from Malaysia was Miss Tourism Cosmopolitan International, and Araceli Dominguez from Paraguay was Dreamgirl of the Year International.
