Loisa Andalio has been in a relationship with fellow actor Ronnie Alonte for five years now. She keeps the passion burning by observing ways to keep them always in love.

There are many factors that make a relationship work, Andalio said during the online press conference today, Feb. 1, for the ABS-CBN miniseries “The Goodbye Girl.”

“Hindi siya kailangan lang kilig, kailangan sweet. Ang daming kailangan para mag-work ‘yung relationship,” she pointed out.

(Relationships should not only need to be making us giddy, or that we should always must be sweet. There are so many things needed to make a relationship work.)

She then enumerated the things that can make a couple “glue” together.

“Kailangan nagko-compromise kayo, honesty sa isa’t isa, respeto, walang itinatagong kasalanan. Basta gusto ninyong dalawa, magwo-work ang relasyon. Walang sakalan. ‘Oy, bawal ka mag-basketball.’ Walang ganoon,” she said.

(You need to compromise, you need honesty towards each other, respect, no keeping away of faults. When both of you want your relationship to work, it will. You should also not be choking each other up. There shouldn’t be restrictions like “Hey, you are not allowed to play basketball.’)

Now that they’ve reached five years in their relationship, Andalio still could not tell what future lies ahead of her and Alonte.

“Ang hirap magsabi kasi hindi natin masabi ang future. Akala natin okay na pero hindi pa rin pala. ‘di ba? Mahirap, hindi ko masasabi ang future,” she said. “Pero gusto ko, habang inaabot namin ni Ronnie ‘yung goal namin, ‘yung future na gusto namin, eh, ini-enjoy namin ‘yung life.”

(It’s hard to say because we can’t predict our future. Sometimes we think things are okay but they are not, right? It’s hard, I can’t talk about the future. But what I want is while Ronnie and I are reaching for our goals, the future we want, we enjoy life.)

Andalio plays Mara in the series. She sees Mara as someone who does not strive for anything for herself, and only adjusts and makes herself conform with any guy who happens to be her partner for the moment.

“Hindi niya ina-accept ang sarili niya na parang kung sino ang karelasyon ko, dapat ganito rin ako,” she noted.

(She doesn’t accept who she really is, such that whoever it is she’s in a relationship with, she must just be like that person.)

“The Goodbye Girl” stars Angelica Panganiban, RK Bagatsing and JC de Vera. Barbie Imperial, Elisse Joson, Maris Racal, Ronnie Alonte Rico Blanco and Turs Daza are also in the cast. It’s based on the book by Noreen Capili and is directed by Derick Cabrido under Dreamscape Entertainment and Clever Minds. JB
