Playing the role of a young girl (Theza) from a poverty-stricken family, newcomer Karina Bautista sees a part of herself in her first “Maalaala Mo Kaya” episode.

“We’re both hardworking,” Bautista answered when asked what her similarity is with her “MMK” character during the online press conference for the TV drama anthology on Feb. 8.

The only difference, she said, is that Theza chose to be the breadwinner of her family.

“‘Although I am independent right now, ‘yung responsibilidad niya kasi ay sobrang mabigat (Her responsibility is so big),” she said.

The episode “Love Ko ‘To” is Bautista’s debut in the widely-followed once-a-week drama anthology hosted by Charo Santos-Concio, and she admits being excited and nervous about it.

“Kasi andoon ‘yung kagustuhan ko na maging maganda ang resulta ng gagawin ko. Of course, nandoon naman ‘yung tiwala ko sa aking director, sa akin co-actors,” she said. (Because my desire to ensure the beauty of my project is right there. Of course, there’s also my trust on my director and fellow actors).

Bautista is willing to toil long and hard for her and Aljon Mendoza’s love team. She acknowledges that they have come a long way despite the challenges in their partnership. Having been cast in the series “Viral Scandal” and featured in their first “MMK” episode, Bautista is really driven to make the best of their tandem.

“Ayaw naming i-give up ‘yung meron na kami na ibinibigay na sa amin na opportunities,” she asked. (We don’t want to give up what we already have and was given to us.). “So, why not make the most out of the blessings?”

“Love Ko ‘To” will be aired on Feb. 26, 8:30 p.m. on the Kapamilya Channel, A2Z, Kapamilya Online Live YouTube channel, ABS-CBN Entertainment Facebook page and iWantTFC. JB
