Art collective TeamLab’s public artwork “Proliferating Immense Life—Sunrise and Sunset, A Whole Year per Year, Singapore,” commissioned by CapitaSpring in Singapore, is now on display.

CapitaSpring is a 280-meter, 51-story skyscraper located in Singapore’s prime Raffles Place Central Business District. The biophilic integrated development houses Singapore’s tallest sky observatory deck and urban farm at 280 m and a 35-m-tall Green Oasis located 100 m above ground, which will be open to the public.

Permanently installed in the lobby of this new skyscraper, TeamLab’s new work of art is synchronized with Singapore’s actual time and season. The artwork brightens as the sun rises, darkens as the sun sets, and the flowers that bloom throughout the year change with the seasons.

Seasonal flowers, including Singapore’s national flower, Vanda Miss Joaquim, respond interactively to the movements of people passing by, and multiply as they are repeatedly born, bloom and scatter, transforming perpetually. The flowers and butterflies scatter when people pass by the artwork, and the butterflies fly away when the elevator doors open.

“Proliferating Immense Life” is not a playback of prerecorded imagery. It is created by a computer program that continuously renders the work in real time. The interaction between people and the installation causes continuous change in the artwork: Previous visual states can never be replicated, and will never reoccur. No two moments are ever the same.

TeamLab, an international art collective and an interdisciplinary group of various specialists, such as artists, programmers, engineers, computer graphics animators, mathematicians and architects, seeks to transcend the boundaries between the self and the world as well as the boundaries in our perception of the continuity of time, through art. The collective, known for the TeamLab Borderless and TeamLab Planets museums in Tokyo, has had installations and exhibits worldwide, including New York, London, Paris, Silicon Valley, Beijing, Melbourne and more.
