Entertainment broadcaster Gretchen Fullido was bothered when she noticed that her dog Simba was limping, despite it not being life threatening to her fur baby.

Fullido recalled the day she saw her pet dog Simba not being able to walk properly, as per her Instagram page today, Feb. 23, where she shared a photo of herself with Simba.

“The other day, Simba was limping [and] could not put weight on his right hind leg — so we went for a check up with @docracky at @mountsinai_veterinarypractice,” she said.

It turned out that Simba was suffering from patella luxation (slipped or dislocated kneecap) “due to maybe a miscalculated jump.”

“So, @docracky put it back in place and soon after, Simba felt immediate relief. He was also given anti-inflammatory medication for a few days,” she said.

“[Patella luxation] is a fairly common condition in some breeds of dog, especially smaller toy breeds like Affenpinscher, Brussels griffon, Chihuahua, English toy spaniel, Greyhound, Japanese spaniel, Maltese, Manchester terrier, Miniature pinscher, Papillon, Pekingese, Pomeranian, Poodle, Pug, Shih tzu, Silky terrier, and Yorkshire terrier,” Fullido stated.

Although the condition can vary in severity, she cited, “its mildest form is not terribly painful for the dog.”

“You might notice a little skip in the dog’s step or the dog may even run on three legs, holding one hind leg up, and then miraculously be back on four legs as if nothing has happened — this is exactly what happened to Simba,” she said.

The incident happened again at home while Simba was still recovering, but this time, Fullido already knew what to do.

“I gently put it back in it’s place again — doc Racky taught me how,” she quipped. “Happy to report now that Simba is almost back to normal, rarely limping and could put some weight on his right hind leg already. He’s non stop running [and] playing again but doc Racky [said] no strenuous actives, no using or stairs and no jumps for Simba for now until he fully recovers.” JB
