Rica Peralejo on cutting off toxic people: ‘One of the best decisions of my life’

For actress-vlogger Rica Peralejo, there’s no use in having a relationship when it has turned sour and trust has become an issue.

Peralejo spoke about getting out of toxic relationships in her Instagram post yesterday, March 22, while showing a photo of herself with her back turned.

“Para sa mga ‘kaibigan’ kong hindi [man lang] ako kinamusta bago magbigay ng judgment ng aking pagkatao at ng makabubuting payo, hetong para sa inyo. Likod ko!” she quipped, possibly referring to fair-weathered friends.

(For my friends who did not even check on me [first] before giving judgment on my character and giving advice, here’s to you: my back!)

Peralejo feels “there is no need to stay in relationships that do not even take the time to listen [to] you but feel like they can just tell you exactly what to do.”

“The thing about that which irks me the most is that it has revealed a mistrust for your character. Nothing from you but all from them because you are judged to not be able to do it right on your own,” she stressed.

She believes that the best thing to do when in a situation like that is to get off quick.

“Toxic na nga buhay [mag-aalaga] pa tayo ng ganyan, wag na (Life is already toxic and we would still take care of that? No way). One of the best decisions of my life was to cut off unnecessary and unhelpful relationships in my life and it has improved my mental state tremendously,” she added.

Peralejo also pointed out to the lie “that we must all be happy and harmonious” to feign friendships.

“But says who? I think sometimes we become more like enemies when we have to force it. Not everyone is good for you, or vice versa! And it’s okay,” she said. “We are finite beings — limited even in the ability to go deep with other fellow beings. We just can’t be there for all and not all are willing to be unconditionally there for you.” JB
