A known dog lover and animal welfare advocate, actress Carla Abellana is fighting against illegal dog trade which has seemingly become even more prevalent nowadays.

Abellana was pleased when news reached her that hundreds of dogs were recently rescued in China, as per her Instagram account today, April 5, where she shared videos of the rescued dogs being fed and treated of their diseases.

“260 puppies and 22 adult dogs to be slaughtered for dog meat in China. Unfortunately, it’s just a regular day in China,” Abellana said.

According to the report she shared, “police in China responded to a call for help from animal activists and intercepted a truck illegally transporting 260 puppies and 22 adult dogs bound to be slaughtered for their meat or sold for the pet trade.”

Abellana was heartbroken to see the dogs in “horrific shape,” “crammed in tiny wire cages and traveling for days without food or water.”

“Sadly, 12 were dead on scene and another 19 passed away subsequently from disease,” she further shared.

If it’s any consolation, Abellana is relieved over the fact that the surviving dogs are receiving urgent veterinary care and will soon be released to a place where their recovery can continue.

Abellana is promoting awareness on dog welfare using her social media platforms, where she posts stories of dogs being rescued all over the country and abroad. JB
