A bangle as base for a vase

Precious pottery and ceramic vases are often nestled on wooden stands or risers to underline their importance. Normally, we see them propped up on traditional wooden bases lacquered in different wood stains.

A more modern approach would be to use acrylic stands, but it’s quite hard to find them. Not a lot of local stores sell them.

I was invited to an estate sale recently and I spotted a pair of antique jars that I felt would be perfect to add to the ones I have. I thought if I displayed them all together, they would make an interesting grouping. A dilemma that crossed my mind on my way home was how to display them alongside the other ones I had.

The vases I have are nestled on acrylic cylinders that accompanied them when I bought them years ago. My two new acquisitions were propped up on an inverted wooden stand so the legs would support the rounded base—not a perfect match, and in fact a visual catastrophe. I wanted a unified look for all of them.

Since I had no way of finding or fabricating similar bases to the ones I have, I decided to shop for possible stands. On my way home I passed by SM. I knew I wanted something cylindrical that would hold the vases up, and I wanted different heights.

I headed up to the houseware section, but then chanced upon a display of bangles in the ladies accessories department. I stopped and thought—cylindrical, and different heights. And there they were, the department had wooden bangles in a nice chocolate brown finish.

Truly a fabulous find. When I got home, I immediately propped up all my vases on the wooden bangles, and they looked great.

So put some offbeat glam in the way of your display by using bangles to hold up your precious vases.
