Undoubtedly fashion’s biggest night, The Met Gala has finally made its return with this year’s theme being “Gilded Glamour”. From mile-long trains to blinding sparkle, below, find some of the most memorable stars from this year’s first Monday in May.
Kim Kardashian in vintage Jean Louis
The same dress famously worn by Marilyn Monroe when she sang “Happy Birthday” to JFK in 1962, the 60-year-old frock made an unforgettable appearance at the Met Gala when Kim Kardashian took it out for a spin. Paired with bleached hair and a faux-fur coat, Kardashian explained in an interview with Vogue the lengths she had to go in order to actually fit into the dress. “I would wear a sauna suit twice a day, run on the treadmill, completely cut out all sugar and all carbs, and just eat the cleanest veggies and protein. I didn’t starve myself, but I was so strict.” The businesswoman and reality star revealed later on in an interview with Lala Anthony that she had lost 16lbs in order to fit into the dress which she rented for the evening from Ripley’s Believe it or Not.

The Gossip Girl alum was a definite head-turner in her custom Atelier Versace gown that dramatically transformed on the red carpet. Crediting New York City architecture as the inspiration for her one-of-a-kind dress, she worked closely with Donatella Versace in the creation of the garment.
Emma Chamberlain in Louis Vuitton
A modern take on gilded glamour, Emma Chamberlain definitely made her second Met Gala appearance another memorable one. Dressed in Louis Vuitton whom she also wore to last year’s ball, Cartier’s newest ambassador donned a cropped cream ruffled top, paired with a long white maxi skirt.

Billie Eilish in Gucci
If anyone did their homework, it’s definitely Billie Eilish. The 20-year-old singer once known for her dark, relaxed style, made an unforgettable statement at the Met in a custom Gucci dress. Considerably one of the evening’s most in-theme looks, the dress featured a waist-cinching, champagne-coloured corset, green lace sleeves, and a periwinkle flower at the top of the bodice to finish it all off.
Khloé Kardashian in Moschino
For her very first Met Gala appearance, Khloé Kardashian arrived in a gold Moschino piece paired with black satin gloves and a ruffled sleeve. Reminiscent of Greek sea nymphs with her voluminous wavy hair topped with butterflies, and even a dash of 70’s disco-glam with her smokey eye make-up, the “good 4 u” singer paired the look with lavender gloves and platform heels.

The Grammy Singer, who was accompanied by her husband, made her way through the Met steps in an intricate Ralph Lauren look. A floor-length gown topped off with a cape, it featured the New York City skyline which was later revealed to have been made up of over 200,000 crystals.
Sarah Jessica Parker in Christopher John Rogers
If it involves fashion, a red carpet, and New York City, you’ll probably find SJP there. The Sex and The City alum made her return to the Met ball after skipping it last year in a Christopher John Rogers gown. Paying homage to Elizabeth Hobbs Keckley who was the very first black female fashion designer in the White House, Parker tapped milliner Phillip Treacey to finish off her look.

One of the event’s most awaited guests, Gigi Hadid made an entrance in her Versace look which featured a bright red corset top and an extravagant puffer jacket. The supermodel also matched the make-up with her look, opting for a bold lip and slicked-back hair.

Cardi B always knows how to make an entrance, and for this year’s Met Gala, she definitely made an unforgettable one in celebrity-favourite Versace. Both red carpet veterans, the two found deeper meaning in this year’s theme. In a live stream with Vogue, Union shared “When you think about the Gilded Age and Black and brown people in this country, this country is built off of our backs, our blood, sweat, and tears. So we added these red crystals to represent the blood spilled during the accumulation of gross wealth by a few during the Gilded Age, off of the backs of Black people and people of color in this country,”. Popsugar also revealed that Union’s dress was an ode to Diahann Carroll who Union credited as “a symbol of opulence and if you will, a gilded glamour.”
Cynthia Erivo in Louis Vuitton
The Bad Times at the El Royale actress took a more sustainable route when dressing for the Met Gala this year, sharing that her bespoke headpiece was made out of upcycled materials. Dressed in Louis Vuitton, the British actress graced the carpet in a refreshing lace white number accessorized with gold jewels and a petite Louis Vuitton purse.
