Sultry young actress Katrina Dovey admitted that she learned about the concept of sex not from her parents but through her friends.
Dovey made the revelation during the online press conference for “High On Sex” last Monday, May 16.
“I say this all the time. I’ve always been a very sexually in touch person since [I was young]. I don’t know [but] it came very natural to me,” she said.
When asked where she learned the concept of sex, she answered, “Actually, it’s more of a friend’s thing like my friends exposed me to it more than my parents did. Never naman itinago ng parents ko (My parents never hid it from me) but I don’t think we ever talked about it directly until I was older.”
Dovey is so comfortable with discussing sex openly and she feels it should not be a taboo topic.
“I think sex is healing and we should all be proud and embrace our sexual side as people,” she explained, while also noting that the Philippines is somehow still “not ready” for this.
“Let’s spread the message and hopefully that will put us in the right direction towards making the word [sex] less taboo in the country,” she appealed.
As Karla, the ex-girlfriend of Wilbert Ross’ Gibo character who suddenly returns from the United States and comes back carrying a huge secret, Dovey said she can relate to her role.
“She’s very introverted and medyo malaki ang pinagdadaanan niya (she is going through something sort of big). Hindi medyo, malaki talaga ang pinagdadaanan niya (It is actually not slight, because she is in fact going through something big),” Dovey shared. “I’ve been there so I think I can relate to her character.”
“High On Sex” follows the sexual awakening of five senior high school students at Harmon Catholic University. Directed by GB Sampedro, it will stream on Vivamax starting June 5. JB
