For his next movie, Wilbert Ross wants to play a drag queen to test of his versatility.
“Gusto ko pong drag na gay, ‘yung sobrang out na out na gay,” the young actor said during the online press conference for the series “High on Sex” last May 16. (I want to play a drag [queen] who is gay, one that is out and out gay.)
That dream role is a far cry from his Gibo character in the series, as he plays a scholar with high libido. He has been holding on to his girlfriend’s promise that they would “go all the way” after junior high school, only to be left high and dry when she flies abroad. Gibo then turns his attention to his hot teacher and every boy’s fantasy, Mrs. Salva, played by Rob Guinto. Their illicit affair is going to be one for the books.
Meanwhile, filming the series brought back Ross’ memories of his high school days.
“Nakaka-miss ‘yung mismong feeling na ganoong edad na sobrang excited ko na makatapos, tapos nakakita ng hot na teacher. Maliban doon, ‘yung may hinahabol-habol kang crush mo tapos hindi ka gusto. Nakaka-miss siya kahit masakit,” he said.
(I miss that feeling when I was that age, I was so excited to finish my studies and I also saw a hot teacher. Aside from that, you pursue your crush who does not like you. I miss it, though painful.)
While he played a high school student in both “Boy Bastos” (a 2020 film) and “High On Sex,” Ross thinks the roles differ.
“Sa ‘High on Sex,’ si Gibo, sobra siyang matalino, honor student. Wala siyang tanga moment dito unlike sa ‘Boy Bastos’ na lutang siya, tanga and sobrang slow. Dito, alam ni Gibo ang sinasabi niya. Aware siya sa mga bagay-bagay,” he explained.
(Here in “High On Sex”, Gibo is very intelligent, an honor student. He does not have a stupid moment, unlike in “Boy Bastos” where [my character] is often out of it, stupid and so slow. [Meanwhile], Gibo knows what he is saying. He is aware of things.)
“High on Sex” is about the sexual awakening of five senior high school students — Gibo, Wes, Mavic, Issa and Karla. It will start streaming on June 5 via Vivamax. JB
