After recovering from COVID-19, Pia Wurtzbach finds ‘new love’ in running

Former Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach gave running a serious thought after contracting COVID-19 last January.

Wurtzbach recalled how she got back to running again after months of not practicing it as can be seen in her Instagram post yesterday, June 1.

“Celebrating a new love today! For years I used to look at runners and think “wow…how to be you?” I’ve always wanted to give it a try so I started with fun runs & virtual charity runs with WWF,” she said.

She said she hated herself when she got the coronavirus disease last January as she felt “so weak, sluggish, not myself.”

“That prompted me to finally give it [running] a serious try. So I just went for it!” she said.

“I remember during my first week of training with my coach @gabbrosario I was hating everything! 30 minutes felt like an eternity! But willpower was stronger and for the first time I’m sticking to a program not for aesthetic purposes. It’s not for a brand, for a photoshoot or a beach vacation. This is for ME,” she stressed.

As an enthusiast, she wanted to push herself to the limit “and see where my body can take me. I wanna see how far I can go and how much stronger I can become.”

She has since been running for three months now, thanks to the “guidance” of people around her.

“I’m feeling stronger everyday I train. I still have a long way to go, literally, but it’s seriously so much fun & I can’t wait to reach more milestones in the months to come,” she said.

For those who want to try running, Wurtzbach said this might be the sign you’re looking for.

“Don’t let excuses stop you! I started with ZERO training. Thank God for helpful and generous friends like @direkjavi & @officialtimyap who pointed me to the right people and gave tips!” she said.

“It’s the community that pushed me to heed the call. So maybe this post inspires you try something new again too. Happy #GlobalRunningDay!” she added.  /ra
