Seemingly affected by the various memes and jokes about celebrity couples who have reached splitsville, former beauty queen Lara Quigaman tells them to pray and ask for God’s grace.
Quigaman revealed in an Instagram post today, June 8, that she was once chided that she and her husband Marco Alcaraz would also split, showing throwback photos of her and her husband while relaxing at Shoes on the Danube Bank in Budapest, Hungary.
“’Hintay lang kayo, next year, hiwalay na din kayo (You just wait, next year, you will split also).’ [I] came across this comment in one of my previous posts in facebook where I shared some ‘asawa tips,’” Quigaman wrote in her caption.
Quigaman was seemingly devastated to read reports about celebrity couples who have split up.
“Recently, ang daming balita ng hiwalayan, away, etc. (Recently, there have been so many reports of breakups, fights, etc.) Nakakalungkot, pero mas nakakalungkot na maraming tao (It’s saddening, but it is more saddening that there are many people) making memes and jokes out of it and what’s worse, others pa are waiting for other relationships to fail!” she said.
She recalled that her husband cried during their first wedding in Vancouver.
“Marco cried on both of our weddings, sa unang kasal pa nga namin sa (in our first wedding in) Vancouver, humagulgol siya (he wept). does that mean- maghihiwalay kami dahil lang umiyak ang asawa ko sa kasal namin (we are going to break up just because my husband cried on our wedding)? And are some people really waiting and hoping for that to happen?” she said.
Marriage, Quigaman said, is not a walk in the park and what makes it work for them is their relationship with God.
“Marco and I have been married for almost 12 years- but we always pray and ask God to cover our relationship, we pray that we will never be complacent and think we are alright when we are not. We are not perfect and we know that there will be temptations and challenges all the time and we can only rely on God’s grace to keep us from falling and failing,” she said.
“For those who are going through challenges in their married life- God is gracious, give your frustrations and heartaches to Him. Nothing is too broken for Him to restore and make whole again, nothing too impossible for Him to fix… seek Him, cry out to Him. He answers… I am praying with you tonight,” she said.
Quigaman explained what the shoes in the Danube Riverbank are, saying they’re a “memorial for the Jews who were shot and whose bodies were thrown into the river.”
“Seeing the shoes made it easier to imagine what those people went through and I can only pray it never happens to anyone again… with all these news of loss and break-ups, let us be kinder, let us put ourselves in their shoes and imagine what it would be like- if people made a joke out of our heartache?” /ra
