Treat Dad to a ‘progressive’ meal at Uptown Bonifacio

Written by: Raoul J. Chee Kee

With Father’s Day just hours away, we’re down to the line. You may have gotten him a new tie or a new apron for the next time he’s in a barbecuing mood but you know what they say: the quickest way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.

Treat Dad to a memorable meal at one of the new dining spots at Uptown Bonifacio, Megaworld’s premier township in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig.

The popular lifestyle mall is shaping out to be a dining destination for foodies eager to savor familiar flavors and sample newer ones.

If you’re feeling adventurous—and make it a point to arrive early enough—you could do a progressive lunch with Dad and other family members starting with appetizers at one restaurant followed by the main course at another, and ending with dessert and coffee at yet another of the mall’s many restaurants.

It’s a feature several luxury hotels have offered in the past to allow guests the opportunity to try the specialties in their different food and beverage outlets.

Comfort food

With the range of choices at Uptown Mall, one can easily replicate the progressive meal experience for Dad. When deciding on the sequence, just remember to keep in mind what he likes or what he might find interesting and then go from there.

Nono’s (GF, Uptown Mall) is known for serving comfort food that might call to mind Mom’s Sunday cooking. One of their best offerings is Homestyle Chicken and Waffles, which is chicken filet deep-fried to perfection paired with hot and crispy waffles.

Takes Delight Comfort Cafe & Bistro (3F, Uptown Mall) serves Asian comfort food with a modern twist. Their popular dishes include BBQ Lechon Kawali Chips & Fries, and the Bacon Pepper Poppers Floss.

One of their must-try meals is Hamonado Tocino TakeSilog with scrambled egg and fried rice, made more interesting with a serving of homemade carioca. The restaurant also holds acoustic music nights in their alfresco area.

The Red Crab’s Uptown Mall branch is the first and only one in the country to serve an oyster menu.

The Red Crab (2F, Uptown Mall) known for the different ways they prepare the prized crustacean also has an extensive selection of Filipino classics.

Their Toasted Coconut Crab is made deliciously special using fresh alimango, toasted coconut milk sauce topped with dried kalkag. They also serve fresh oysters prepared a number of ways including Oyster and Malunggay Rockefeller, Baked Oyster Cheese Pimiento, Beer Battered Oysters and Corn, and Fried Oysters with Salted Egg Curry Sauce.

Salt and Ice (GF, Uptown Parade) is a passion project of owner John-Michael Hilton that offers craft cocktails and fresh oysters in one restobar. Apart from the diverse bar menu, they can also personalize drinks for guests. The oysters are flown in fresh from Aklan to support local fisherfolk. They also have various selections of bar bites, tapas, pasta, pizza and other international cuisine.

Their name was derived from the chef’s childhood memories in Spain where grandmothers would typically say, “tienes mas hambreque un perro chiko,” which In English, means “eat like you’re a hungry small dog.” At the restaurant, one can find a good mix of ambiance, service and great food.

Their Ensalada de Queso de Cabra is perfect for vegetarians and those looking for gluten-free options. It is made with panseared goat cheese flavored with strawberry vinaigrette, and is one of their bestselling starters.
