Located along the main road of Sucat is Daniele’s Casa Mia Italian Restaurant, the Southern Metro’s own tiny but delicious slice of Italia. Following in his parents’ very succesful footsetps, Daniele Bellini decided to open his very own Italian restaurant in Marikina a few years ago. The wrath of Typhoon Ondoy forced him to close it down—for a while. Good thing he decided to settle in a quaint spot in the South, very accessible from Alabang, BF, Las Piñas, and even Makati. Start off with a plate of one of his most popular appetizers, Caprese (P230/S, P420/L). Its layers of fresh mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, and basil leaves are reminiscent of the Italian flag, with vibrant colors of red, green, and white generously spread out on the plate. For your main course, you can opt to order either the Risotto alla Marinara (P230), another house specialty, or the Raviolli Truffle Cream (P250), which has a scrumptious spinach, ham, and truffle cream filling. A visit to Daniele’s is not complete without a taste of the authentic pizzas many loyal and new customers rave about. The Quattrizza (P240/S, P470/L) is the best option for those who just can’t decide on which flavor to get. This dish consists of four tasty flavors on a thin, crisp crust. These flavors include: the Capriciosa (all-veggie), the Maialona (all-meat), the Quattro Formaggi (four cheese), and the Napoli (a mix of anchovies, capers, and oregano). Cap off your meal with a couple of orders of its best dolci – its famed Tiramisu (P130) and authentic Italian Gelatto (P170). Molto delizioso!

If you’re one of those who are constantly on the lookout for great Japanese food that’s different from the usual places, then try dropping by Okiiniri No Japanese Food House. At Okiiniri, you can choose to dine in the main restaurant or in one of the two private rooms which are made to look like one small pagoda in the middle of a stone garden. It offers quite an extensive menu which includes a selection of its own signature Okiiniri sushi platters as well as Japanese menu staples. One such dish is the Kani Salad (P135), a refreshing mix of fresh cabbage and lettuce, strips of crab sticks, and chopped carrorts drizzled with Japanese mayo and topped off with a generous serving of roe. Known for its Sukiyaki (P275 good for 2-3 persons) which is always served pipping hot and chock full of greens, tofu, and beef strips, it also serves a mean bowl of Miso Soup (P65 per bowl).
The marinated and barbecued to perfection Chicken Yakitori (P100/ 2 sticks) is great with a bowl of any of the different kinds of rice available on the menu (P50 – P65). Another must-try is perhaps one of the best items on the menu, the California Maki and Crunchy Tuna Combo (P260/ 16 pieces). Aside from the California Maki, which is a common favorite, Okiiniri’s Crunchy Tuna Maki is an absolute delight to eat. Inside the maki are slices of fresh tuna with perfectly-cooked Japanese rice wrapped around it. Sitting atop each piece of maki is this dish’s highlight–the crisp, spicy, and creamy mix of small tuna chunks smothered in a signature sauce. End the meal on a healthy and calming note and order for yourself a pot of its House Tea.
