Queen Elizabeth II dies at 96

Queen Elizabeth II, Britain’s longest serving monarch, dies at 96, according to multiple sources including The Buckingham Palace.

In an official announcement, The Royal Palace announced: “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”

Queen Elizabeth II was born to the Duke and Duchess of York in 1926. She ascended to the throne at the young age of 25, and went on to serve as Queen for more than seven decades. She was served by 15 British prime ministers and met with 13 U.S. presidents. Her eldest son Charles has inherited the sovereign title.
