Former Viva Hot Babes member Katya Santos is still in showbiz but she’s hoping that in the future, she will still be given big breaks.
“Luckily po naman, laging nakakakuha ng teleserye (I am always able to get a soap opera). My last project was with Papa P (Piolo Pascual), a sitcom. It will have a season [two] which we will be doing in January,” she said after the special screening of iWantTFC’s “TARA G!” at SM North Edsa, The Block Directors Club 1 and 2, last Friday, Sept. 23.
What is her secret in staying afloat in showbiz?
“‘Yung iba kasing Viva Hot Babes, siguro kasi hindi pa sila mothers. So, kami ni Andrea del Rosario ang nagma-mother roles na. Mas maraming projects for mother roles kaya nakakakuha kami palagi,” she said.
(As for the other Viva Hot Babes, maybe it’s because they’re not mothers yet. So, Andrea del Rosario and I play mother roles. There are so many mother roles which is why we get it.)
Santos started in ABS-CBN’s “Ang TV,” then acted in youth-oriented TV shows before she took the sexy route via Viva Hot Babes.
“Hoping pa rin ako na magkaroon uli ng another break,” she said. “Sana magkaroon pa ring ng mas magandang material for me na mas masho-showcase ko’yung skills ko. Nangangarap pa rin ako ng ganoon.”
(I am still hoping to get another break. I hope that there would still be better material for me where I can showcase my skills. I still dream of that.)
Being a sexy star herself in the past, Santos noted some differences between those past roles and the Vivamax sexy stars.
“Ang difference kasi dati, sa amin, pelikula, cinema. Ang Vivamax kasi online so wala masyadong censorship. Sa amin madaming censorship kaya limitado lang ’yung puwede naming ipakita,” she explained.
(The difference with us is we were mostly films, cinema. Vivamax is online so there’s not much censorship. With us then, there was too much censorship, so there’s a limit to what we can show.)
Santos plays JC Alcantara’s mom in “Tara G” which also stars Anthony Jennings, Kaori Oinuma, Vivoree Esclito, Zach Castañeda, CJ Salonga and Daniela Stranner. Directed by Cathy Camarillo, it will stream on the iWantTFC app (iOs and Android) and website (iwanttfc.com) beginning Oct. 7. The series is also available for premium subscribers outside of the Philippines. JB
