TOKYO, Japan — Beatriz Mclelland from the Philippines was proclaimed first runner-up in the 2022 Miss Eco Teen International pageant held at the Concord Moreen Beach Resort in Marsa Alam, Egypt, on Sunday, December 11 (December 12 in Manila).
The 20-year-old student and pageant veteran was edged out by Sherisha Chanda from India for the top prize in the competition that promotes environmental awareness among the youth.
Mclelland’s second-place finish gave the Philippines back-to-back first runner-up placements in the international contest. Her national predecessor Tatyana Austria was 2021 Miss Eco Teen International first runner-up.
The Philippines has so far recorded one victory in the teen pageant, courtesy of Roberta Tamondong, who won the crown in 2020 also in Egypt.
Mclelland’s placement also gave the Philippines, and her national pageant organization, back-to-back first runner-up finishes in just two days.
Her 2022 Miss World Philippines “sister” Justine Felizarta was proclaimed first runner-up in the 2022 Miss Tourism World pageant in Vietnam on Saturday, December 10.
December is a busy month for global competitions. Binibining Pilipinas Hannah Arnold is in Tokyo, Japan, for the 60th Miss International pageant that will culminate in a coronation program at the Tokyo Dome City Hall on Tuesday, December 13.
