Sofia Coppola’s 16-year-old Daughter Is The Internet’s New Favorite Nepo Baby

It’s only completely natural for parents to protect their young. However, when you’re an Oscar-winning mother born to a second-generation Hollywood dynasty, and a Grammy-winning father fronting one of the biggest indie pop bands in the world, I guess you could say that things are a little bit different.

Case in point, Sofia Coppola and Thomas Mars’ 16-year-old daughter, Romy Croquete Mars, who has taken the internet by storm with her viral pasta-making TikTok video. A chaotic encapsulation of everything you would expect from a Nepo Baby, it’s the first time the world has really ever seen the young Coppola apart from the occasional fashion show appearance she’d attend alongside her mother.

Speaking of her mother, it isn’t much of a secret that Mars is the product of THE Sofia Coppola. Forlorn melancholic filmmaker, daughter to The Godfather director Francis Ford Coppola, (making her a Nepo Baby herself) exiled actress (We don’t count The Godfather III as a part of the franchise), and now an acclaimed director herself. Since her victorious Best Original Screenplay Oscar win back in 2003, Coppola has been the brains behind cult favorites such as The Bling Ring, Marie Antoinette, and The Beguiled to name a few.

However, it’s important to note that Mars’ father has his very own fair share of star-power himself. Fontman to Grammy award-winning French indie pop band Phoenix, Romy’s dad is none other than Thomas Mars.

Anyways, back to Romy.

In the now-deleted TikTok video, Coppola-Mars began by explaining to viewers why she was creating the video in the first place. An apparent product of boredom, she shared how she was grounded for trying to charter a helicopter from New York to Maryland on her dad’s credit card because she wanted to have dinner with her friend from camp.

Because when your cousin is Jason Schwartzman and your uncle is Nicolas Cage, you don’t get into trouble for something as mundane as forgetting to take the chicken out the freezer.

The 16-year-old then went on to reveal that she isn’t allowed to have any form of public social media, quickly flashing her dad’s glistening 2010 Grammy award implying that that was the reason why. (We’re assuming her mother’s Academy Award was probably locked up in storage alongside the rest of her family’s Oscars. Totally normal.)  She continues: “Because they don’t want me to be a nepotism kid. But TikTok’s not going to make me famous, so it doesn’t really matter.”.

Now it isn’t clear if Romy saying that was a foreshadowing how her now-viral TikTok video (The irony. We know.), but it’s safe to say that the internet has discovered a new favorite Coppola, and in true form, found her fame through the medium of film.
