For good hair–eat right

SO, you’ve found the right scalp and hair-care shampoo. A more holistic approach to caring for your scalp, however, requires some tweaking in your diet.

Dr. Oz Garcia, Clear nutritionist, lists a few dietary and lifestyle suggestions:

Avoid foods that are too salty, spicy or sweet.

Heavy alcohol intake can aggravate dandruff conditions.

Eat foods rich in Omega 3 fats (salmon, walnut, pecans, almonds, flaxseed). They reduce inflammation and relieve dry and itchy scalp.

Steer clear from fried and processed foods containing butter and saturated fats.

Increase intake of healthy fats like olive oil, soybean, sunflower seed, fish oils.

Eat lots of fruits rich in antioxidants like blueberries, strawberries, mango, papaya, pomegranate.

Eat fiber-rich veggies like broccoli, spinach, cabbage and cauliflower.

Include Vitamin B-rich foods in your diet such as nuts, peas, beans and whole grains.

To avoid hair loss, reduce stress and sleep at least eight hours a day. Increase your intake of good quality protein from meat, fish and eggs.

A teaspoon of olive oil a day in your diet will help strengthen hair.

Shiny black hair calls for a diet rich in lentils and legumes.

Spices like turmeric and cumin can help detoxify your body.

Damaged hair calls for silica-rich foods like green and red peppers, cucumbers and bean sprouts.
