Dutch Embassy marks King’s Day

Netherlands Ambassador Marielle Geraedts

The Dutch Embassy in the Philippines recently hosted the King’s Day celebration to commemorate the birthday of His Majesty King Willem-Alexander, who turned 56 and was crowned 10 years ago.

King’s Day celebrations have been a tradition in the Netherlands for over 135 years, and the day is known for its customs such as orange pastries, flea markets, games, festivals and a sea of people dressed in orange.

Dutch officials led by Ambassador Marielle Geraedts were glad to share this special occasion with their friends and partners in the Philippines, to further cement the strong ties between the two countries. The Dutch have had strong and lasting diplomatic relations with the Philippines for 72 years, and their connection dates back to the 1600s when Dutch ships docked in the country. Today, the two countries maintain a strong and well-rounded relationship focusing on trade and the development of the Philippines.

The event was a celebration of the tried-and-true friendship between the Dutch and the Filipinos. We look forward to more!
