We fixed classrooms with this NGO, and you can volunteer with them too

Last May 3, instead of our usual Friday morning spent in our cubicles desperately chugging coffee, the Scout team along with the rest of Hinge Inquirer went out to Gotamco Elementary School in Pasay City to participate in a school build with Renovate to Educate (rED).

What’s a build? Well, it’s an initiative by rED along with a partner organization, a.k.a. us last Friday, to repair school facilities for the children. We smoothen chairs, nail down wobbly desks, repaint classrooms, build bookshelves from scratch, create murals, the whole shebang. We also sweat a lot.

Why did we do this, you ask? Well our company cares about the community around us, and we make it a point to participate in ground-level activities to help out our surrounding communities whenever we can. Scout, for one, is definitely down to help out young ‘ins for a better learning experience. If you haven’t heard, we’re big on being all for the youth.

With help from Renovate to Educate’s expertise, we were able to help Gotamco Elementary School prep for the incoming school year which will welcome 1,148 students.

Our output in numbers includes 73 chairs fixed, 11 blackboards, two classrooms, and four library desks repainted, three classroom doors repaired, and three walls worth of a mural painting created. Not too shabby for four hours of work.

Check out the snaps below to see what we were up to. If you like what you see, you can also contact rED to team up for a build of your own, volunteer to help, or let them know about a school that would appreciate their help. Every table and chair counts!
