25 years of Samsung in the Philippines: Innovations that connect, empower, and inspire

For 25 years, global technology brand Samsung has been uplifting the lives of Filipinos, with innovative technologies that have transformed homes and businesses, and have empowered communities through educational programs.

Samsung’s industry-leading mobile devices and appliances not only enable connectivity but also streamline daily routines, offer entertainment for meaningful connections, inspire creativity and learning, and contribute to the efficiency of businesses and industries in our everyday lives. Here’s a recap of how Samsung’s transformative ideas and technologies have profoundly impacted Filipino lives over the past quarter of a century.

Connect: The Personalized Life with Samsung

Over the years, Samsung has redefined tech capabilities, showcasing more ways to connect, create and personalize one’s devices.

The Galaxy Z series leads the market with breakthrough products highlighting the pinnacle of technology and design, with the Galaxy Z Flip5 and Fold5 continuing to redefine the foldable experience. The Galaxy Z Flip5’s new Flex Window unfolds new opportunities for expression and connection, with ample space that users can personalize by adding widgets where they can easily access their favorite social apps, or even useful information such as the news, weather, or even the latest global stock market updates. Meanwhile, the all-new Flipsuit Case supports a changeable NFC card that lets users match their Flex Window and case designs, and users can also match the style of the Flex Window to their Galaxy Watch6 face.

Samsung’s Flip Street in Bonifacio Global City also highlighted the commitment to personalization through a collaboration with local artists Bea Policarpio, Soleil Ignacio and Jappy Agoncillo, who each created customized merchandise and flip and fold accessories. The event’s You Make Zone also allowed users to personalize their Samsung device with different cases and Flipsuit cards for your Galaxy phone and straps for your Galaxy watch.

When it comes to home appliances, to “Bespoke” one’s life is to optimize devices in ways that streamline and empower your routine. By strengthening connectivity across its appliance lineup and expanding AI to more categories, Samsung is paving the way for a new era of hyper-connected and personalized devices and homes.

In the Philippines, Samsung launched the Bespoke Top-Mounted Freezer refrigerator which combines elegant design with a full range of Bespoke color and texture options to help Filipinos achieve their own kind of unique and aesthetic kitchen.

All these devices can efficiently be managed in the palm of our hands with SmartThings, a handy all-in-one app that connects all these smart devices and appliances and helps one manage them in a single, easy to use app–making day-to-day living simple with a home that is tailored to one’s needs.  Combining Samsung’s latest SmartThings enhancements and AI technology, Bespoke products offer a seamlessly automated home experience — one in which devices learn users’ usage patterns and provide personalized automation based on their smart home configuration and lifestyle.

Empower: Innovations for Emerging Passion Points

Samsung has been the leader in providing innovative technology to empower Filipinos in pursuing their passion in business, entertainment, and even gaming — empowering them to lead the lives that they want in an integral way.

Samsung takes pride in offering a unified ecosystem of products and solutions, from educational technology and solutions that engage hybrid digital learning, air-conditioning solutions for enterprises, cutting-edge Knox Security solutions for private and government technology and endpoint security, workforce productivity and tactical operations, to elevating the patient experience through Samsung display and mobility solutions, displays, software solutions and content management for hospitality players, and transforming retail spaces with in-store signage and digital menu boards.

In the fast-rising gaming industry, Samsung is also offering a full suite of products to empower Filipino gamers. With Samsung’s Odyssey Neo G9, the world’s first Dual UHD Monitor, gamers can enjoy hyper-realistic visuals powered with Quantum Mini-LED and HDR 1000. There is also the Odyssey OLED G9, which is a game changer in the market due to the innovations on picture quality, sound features and gaming experience.

And as the global no. 1 for TV for 17 straight years, Samsung also leads in enhancing the Filipino entertainment experience. The Samsung OLED 4K Smart TV boasts the Quantum HDR OLED+ which gives majestic viewing with every pixel responding to create deep blacks, clean whites and lively colors and a refresh rate of 144 Hz, giving you more immersive entertainment, and even gameplay experience. It also has Object Tracking Sound+, where you get to experience vividly realistic 3D audio with built in speakers to get the cinematic surround sound in the comfort of your home.

Inspire: Sustainable Innovations that Influence a Future of Hope

Since 2022, Samsung has adopted a robust environmental strategy aligning with global climate change initiatives. This involves a commitment to achieving net zero carbon emissions, increasing the use of renewable energy, investing in research for energy-efficient products, enhancing water reuse, and developing carbon capture technology.

With this, Samsung invested in new and innovative eco-conscious materials for its products, including recycled parts incorporated in some of the mobile products like the Galaxy S23 series that uses up to 20% recycled ocean-bound plastic, 22% recycled glass and 80% recycled PET bottles, and the Galaxy Z Flip5 and Fold5 that comes in packaging boxes made of 100% recycled materials. The brand also integrated energy efficient features to their home appliances and entertainment devices, which users can take further with the SmartThings app to lower the carbon footprint by taking control of home energy usage. Moreover, Samsung steps up with eco-friendly Customer Services. The Eco-Conscious Repair does not only lower the cost of the parts we must buy for replacement, but it also reduces the amount of electronic waste. Samsung also offers convenient and responsible options via the Electronic Waste Disposal (EWD) program. Drop boxes for mobile e-waste are deployed at different Samsung Authorized Service Center locations nationwide and free pick-up of large appliances for customers in NCR is also available.

With all these innovations and initiatives, Samsung was included in the TIME100 Most Influential Companies and also topped the list of the World’s Best Employers by Forbes for the fourth consecutive year. Samsung was also recognized among The Philippines’ Best Customer Service 2023 by Statista and the Philippine Daily Inquirer, identified from the results of an independent survey of more than 11,000 customers in the Philippines.

Samsung also initiated a number of advocacy programs for its silver anniversary. Among these is the Philippine launch of Solve for Tomorrow, an innovative competition for government-managed science high schools that fosters critical thinking, creative problem-solving, and teamwork to encourage social innovation ideas that address pressing community issues. Samsung also recently partnered with the Department of Education (DepEd) for Brigada Eskwela 2023 to help clean and repaint classrooms in Palar Integrated School in Taguig City, and renewed its partnership with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) for a training program that aims to equip women and the youth.

“It is our game-changing and groundbreaking technology that made us a global leader, and it is our inspired innovations that will continue this legacy,” said Samsung Electronics Philippines (SEPCO) President Min Su Chu. “We are dedicated to enhancing the lives of Filipinos by continuously leveraging our technology, grounded in a deep understanding of our customers. This commitment serves as our guiding principle as we move forward to Samsung’s next 25 years in the Philippines,” he added.
