Memeable moments that Turned Super Bowl 2024 into an instant classic

From Usher’s onstage shenanigans to Travis Kelce’s passionate roar, Super Bowl LVIII was chock-full of memorable (and laughable) moments

The Super Bowl is arguably sporting’s biggest event. However, in reality, football itself only takes a sizeable portion of the public’s interest—from star-studded courtside appearances to the ever-awaited halftime show performance.

Super Bowl LVIII was chock-full of memorable (and memeable) bits. Here were our favorite moments.

SpongeBob’s performance at the Bubble Bowl will forever be iconic. Now, the band has taken their place among the greats that have graced football’s biggest stage.

But the fun didn’t end there. The rest of our favorite Bikini Bottom residents just couldn’t miss out on the festivities. In a special collaboration by the NFL with Nickelodeon, the Super Bowl was broadcast on the channel. The special program featured SpongeBob and Patrick on the desk, and Texas native Sandy Cheeks at courtside.

They also had something to say about Travis Kelce, or in their words, “Taylor Swift’s boyfriend.”

Usher’s onstage shenanigans

Prior to taking the stage, Usher admitted that it was “a challenge to squeeze 30 years into 13 minutes.” Yet, the 45-year-old delivered—performing classics such as “Love in This Club,” “My Boo,” and “Confessions Part II”—and with the help of guest performers Ludacris, Lil Jon, Alicia Keys, H.E.R., will.i.am., and Jermaine Dupri.

However, discussions surrounding Usher’s Halftime show guesting were not all about his performance.

The 2000s R&B icon took off his shirt while singing “U Got It Bad.” And while others marveled at the singer’s impressive physique, some could not get over his peculiar dance moves. Several joked, “Did Usher find the spider last night?”

Travis Kelce’s passionate roar

With the season’s biggest game coming down to the wire, emotions were running high on both sides. The Chiefs’ tight end, Travis Kelce, was no exception. After a crucial fumble during the second quarter, Kelce was spotted shouting into the ear of Coach Andy Reid and subsequently knocking him off balance.

Reid later shed light on the brief altercation, saying, “He caught me off balance. I wasn’t watching. He was really coming over [and saying], ‘Just put me in, I’ll score. I’ll score.’ So, that’s really what it was. I love that. It’s not the first time. I appreciate him.”

The minor scuffle may have been brushed off as a “heat-of-the-moment” outburst, but barring several doomsaying swifties—the internet would not let Kelce off the hook so easily.

Troy and Gabriella?

Yes, after weeks of speculation concerning her tight schedule, Taylor Swift, in fact, made it to the Super Bowl. And as the two shared a tender moment following the Chief’s victory, Swift’s recent appearances at Kelce’s games have led others to compare the couple with another pop-culture pairing—Troy and Gabriella from “High School Musical.”

Even Vanessa Hudgens herself caught wind of the comparisons. “I have nothing else other than the fact that it’s hilarious,” she said to Entertainment Tonight.
