The Bistro Group’s first modern chic Chinese resto-bar just bloomed on April 1 at One Bonifacio High Street. Touted as the younger sister to Modern Shang, it has been called Red Lotus.
Cozy, stylish, relaxed ambiance
Behind the door is a decidedly cozy and stylish vibe with ambient music perfect for dining and wining anytime one feels compelled, whether for lunch with colleagues or winding down the day with friends.
Drawing inspiration from modernized versions of traditional Chinese motifs such as arched portals and patterned details, Red Lotus’ main design feature is its ceiling. The varying wood forms descending from the soffit are illustrative of the modern Shanghai skyline. The stream of light between the forms represents the Huangpu, the biggest river in central Shanghai. Upon entering the storefront, the interiors’ welcoming brightness becomes muted further down inside where the hues become darker alluding to Shanghai’s transformation from a bustling city during the day to an urban watering hole once the sun sets.
It’s not just the interiors that are stylish. Attention to detail is manifest down to the use of tableware. The place is decidedly Instagrammable, with dramatic black, rich red hues, and touches of gold resulting in a minimalist yet sophisticated and upscale setting.
The Bar
And then, there’s the bar, the restaurant’s focal point. Intimate with subdued atmospheric lighting, it is where the action is when guests come to drink and eat and while the time away with music that is specially curated to complement the atmosphere.
For most people, going to bars is a social thing – to catch up with friends, let loose, and have a couple of drinks while conversing about this and that. It is where stories are told and secrets shared (albeit in whispers). Red Lotus’ bar is no different. One can simply chill with a Martini in hand and enjoy the vibe and the energy.
The bar is stocked with an extensive selection of creatively crafted boozy cocktails and mocktails such as Sichuan sour, dragon’s potion, pineapple mint fizz, coco, and basil. Whichever you fancy, the bartenders will be delighted to deliver the drink of your choice.
As for the food, Red Lotus offers classic Chinese food but contemporized with a modern twist of flavors that turns the ordinary into extraordinary like the Mongolian glazed beef tenderloin, century egg tofu, tung-bor peachy glazed pork, roast duck, and their signature xiao long bao making them unique on their own.
The flair is relaxed and inviting, the bar is the place you’d find yourself in for a chill time. That is Red Lotus.
