Jugarap’s finalist entry, ‘Echinoid,’ in the Metal category, is a stunning example of his skillful manipulation of galvanized iron, gold leaf, and resin. The intricate weaving of wishbone-shaped threads on a lattice forms a masterpiece resembling a gourd, inspired by the delicate elegance of sea urchins. The piece is sprayed black, adorned with delicate gold leaf, and sealed with a final layer of resin, creating an ethereal effect reminiscent of dewdrops or fossilized insects trapped in amber.
