It’s no secret that Allan Pineda Lindo, better known as Apl.de.Ap, came from humble beginnings. And yet, despite his success with the Grammy Award-winning Black Eyed Peas, he continues to credit those who helped him along the way and pay it forward with every opportunity given to him through the Apl.de.ap Foundation International (APLFI).

The APLFI is a nonprofit geared towards providing opportunities to the youth. It was founded in the Philippines in 2011 and has since expanded internationally.

The latest in its endeavors is a partnership with the Asia Development Bank where the artist-turned-philanthropist signed a memorandum of understanding to electrify the local transport sector.

Part of the project includes educating Filipino students on electric vehicles and converting our existing jeepneys.

“The Philippines is moving into a brighter future, especially in electrification. We need to prepare ourselves and be at the start of a new industry. Let’s help each other and involve everyone in sharing the blessing of knowledge and education,” says Apl.de.Ap.

The Black Eyed Peas co-founder also recently visited the Boystown and Girlstown campuses of The Sister of Mary School in Cavite as he shared with them his goals of local electrification.

“It reminds me of myself—from humble beginnings and being given an opportunity to pay it forward and making sure that our youth has the education and an opportunity for a brighter future,” says Apl.de.Ap, referring to the students of The Sister of Mary School, who are also scholars.

And when asked what it meant for him to be able to pay it forward, he said, “It’s gratifying to see what happens when you give access and education to a kid here in our country and you see magic happen.
