Today’s Lunch Can Be a Little Less Healthy

Hungry, but on a diet? Here, ditch that bland quinoa salad, and have a burger. With cheese.

We trust the American Heart Association when they say that eating fast food isn’t always bad for you. In fact, a well-balanced diet should be based on vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat dairy, while allowing a few guiltless and safe portions of that occasional drive-thru treat or fast food fix when your time and budget are pretty tight.

In an article for MultiSport magazine, Coach Kaye Lopez insists on giving in once or twice to cheesy, oily, savory, and sometimes sugary temptations.

Believe it or not, it’s possible to get full sans breaking your calorie ceiling at your favorite fast food joint. You’re craving for McDonalds? Have a 465-calorie meal consisting of four-piece nuggets, barbecue sauce, regular cut fries, and 12 oz. Coke Zero.

But wait, you really want Burger King? How about getting a Whopper Junior Sandwich with cheese sans the mayonnaise? But then you’ve decided on Wendy’s. So just get that Chili con Carne with 170 calories and a Junior Chocolate Frosty—its 200 calories won’t hurt that much.

Options abound, but that doesn’t mean you should abuse it: Important things to consider when ordering your Happy Meal are its size or quantity, and additional condiments.

Less is more, so always choose sandwiches with words like “junior” and “deluxe” attached to it. That means what you’re getting are fewer calories than the regular serving.

The point is, never let your small fatty meal turn into a greasy daily buffet. Experts allowed us to eat in moderation. That means still eating less of this than how we still consume that quinoa.
