After releasing her first single off her fourth studio album Honeymoon last month, Lana Del Rey returns with her second single, “High on the Beach.” Though the song leaked two days ahead of its debut on Beats Radio 1, it’s now available for a listen on YouTube:
It’s hard to believe that Lana Del Rey (a.k.a. the artist formerly know as Lizzy Grant) first entered pop culture consciousness just three years ago with 2012’s Born to Die. With it, she introduced her signature sound of languid vocals, lush, cinematic melodies, and dark themes.
Though Born to Die was widely panned by music critics, few could deny that she was an original act in a sea of Lady Gaga wannabes. It’s apparent, then, that it’s Lena triumph, given that her new single is lauded as a welcome return to her original sound, though her noirish 2014 album Ultraviolence was declared one of the best that year.
While we leave the verdict up to you, it’s hard to deny that it’s great to have Lana back.
