Grammy-winning Icelandic-Chinese singer-songwriter Laufey (whew, that’s a lot of hyphens, Miss Laufey!) just kicked off the US-Canada leg of her international tour before surprising fans with an announcement.
On Instagram, the singer uploaded a teaser poster for the music video of her latest song, “Goddess.”
The music video is set to drop on Apr. 11. But that’s not the biggest surprise of all—Laufey also revealed in the post that the music video will be directed by multi-awarded Korean-Canadian director/playwright/screenwriter Celine Song. Yes, the Celine Song who gave us “Past Lives.”
So we can just imagine how much more emotional Laufey’s honest yet harrowing ballad will be through Song’s lens. The music video stars Laufey and actor Will Gao.
“Goddess” tells of a relationship that has crumbled because of unrealistic expectations. It laments how the partner has seen the singer as a “goddess” because of her fame and glamor on stage, when all she wanted was to be loved for the human she is.
Laufey is set to perform in the Philippines for a two-night concert entitled “Laufey: A Night at the Symphony” on May 28 and 29 at the PICC Plenary Hall.
