Republic Act 11214 mandates the establishment of the Philippine Sports Training Center (PSTC) that will include training facilities for Olympic sports and other sports activities as deemed significant and necessary by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC). A total of P3.5 billion will be allocated from the General Appropriations Act to construct the PSTC within 18 months on a 20-hectare sports hub in Rosales, Pangasinan.

What does this mean for Philippine sports?

The PSTC will serve as a suitable and conducive high-level training ground venue for the Philippine national teams, athletes, coaches, and referees. The law also states that PSC will enforce a sports science and research team to accommodate our Filipino athletes.

This means that the PSTC will replace the 85-year-old Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila and the outdated PhilSports Complex in Pasig City as the new home of Philippine sports.

The PSTC will include the following:

    • Baseball field
    • Beach volleyball
    • Volleyball courts
    • Bowling centre
    • Covered swimming and diving pool
    • Football field
    • Gymnastics center
    • Multi-purpose gymnasium
    • Rugby pitch
    • Shooting range
    • Tennis courts
    • Velodrome
    • Sports science building
    • A medical center
    • A multipurpose field for sports like archery, BMX cycling, law balls, and pétanque

With the variety of facilities that will be made available at PSTC, more Filipino athletes will finally be given the chance to properly train for their sport. The new law also directed the PSC to incorporate an administration solely for the PSTC, including security and managerial staff. Not only will there be operation services but also dormitories for athletes and coaches.

The long-awaited signing of the new PSTC will aid in establishing the development of sports in the country, achieve excellence in international sports, and ensure success in the quest to win medals in the Olympics aside from promoting international amity among nations.
