Have A Field Day With These Shirts

When we think of Ivy League-inspired fashion, we think of polo shirts, chino pants, and Sperry Top-siders. Preppy styles a plenty have come from this particular style of dress throughout the years, but “Miyoki-zoku,” a distinct youth tribe in Japan inspired by this American collegiate style, created something new in the process of copying. Call the reinterpretation a loss of translation in the part of the group, but the young Japanese boys and girls found something new, which evidently had an impact in youth fashion.

Girl in transit’s F/W ’16 collection takes inspiration from this Japanese movement and goes through the same process of reinterpretation and translation to create something new. The makers behind girl in transit and boy in transit have always had surprises up their sleeves when it comes to their collections, and this holiday collection has one: a hockey jersey. The same casual activewear theme is also found in their pair of vintage t-shirts and PE t-shirts.  “The collection, entitled ‘Girl Athletics Supply,’ reflects the same sensibilities of integrating activewear garments to one’s everyday casual wardrobe,” says the description on the lookbook. “It’s with this holiday collection that girl in transit also celebrates and honors women and their contributions to the field of sports.”
