The internet is still grieving over musician and producer Sophie’s passing after she was involved in a terrible accident while trying to watch the moon on Jan. 30.
As a sign of respect and in honor of the visionary artist, fans have signed a petition calling for NASA to rename the planet TOI-1338 b after Sophie instead. ans have noticed the similarity in aesthetics and vibes of the planet, which orbits two stars in its system, with Sophie’s “Oil of Every Pearl’s UnInsides” album. “Her fans would love to pay homage by having her name be remembered in this way and for her influence to continue to flourish for years to come,” said Christian Arroyo who started the petition.
“It’s really hard for me to sum up the special connection I felt with such an amazing person who completely changed my life… It’s impossible to summarize the journey I went on with Sophie. Even the most insignificant things felt enormous,” Charli XCX wrote in a tribute on Twitter and even RT-ing the petition herself.
Sophie was known for songs like “It’s Okay to Cry,” “Immaterial” and “Faceshopping” as well as her collaborations with Madonna, hip-hop artist Vince Staples, Kim Petras, Diplo and Charli XCX. She was also an avowed queer activist who not only challenged gender norms and being trans_but also electronic music.
