‘Hayao Miyazaki’ is an ultimate book buddy for all Studio Ghibli fans

It seems like Hayao Miyazaki has been serving us epic surprises every year.

In collaboration with Studio Ghibli, a “richly illustrated” book featuring the cinematic journey of the iconic Japanese filmmaker is now up for grabs published by DelMonico Books. The book is fittingly titled “Hayao Miyazaki” and is written by curator Jessica Niebel. Its publication marks the 2021 inaugural exhibition of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles.

‘Hayao Miyazaki’ is an ultimate book buddy for all Studio Ghibli fans 1

Taking over childhoods for over 40 years, Hayao Miyazaki transports us to his timeless and adventurous worlds through film. The 288-paged book covers hundreds of original production materials, like archives of Ghibli’s never-before-seen artworks.

This book will also give Ghibli’s artistically-inclined fans familiarity with his creative process. Production materials are put on display, such as concept sketches, character designs, layouts, and storyboards behind 11 featured films. This includes fan faves like “My Neighbor Totoro” (1988), “Kiki’s Delivery Service” (1989), “Princess Mononoke” (1997), “Spirited Away” (2001), and “Howl’s Moving Castle” (2004).

If you want to add this to your Ghibli collection,  this is available for dibs online on Amazon (P2,307, available for shipping in the Philippines) and Artbook ($49.95 or P2,490, available in the U.S. and Canada only). But if films are more your speed, you can also check out this free-to-stream Miyazaki documentary.
