Calix bids farewell to partnership with BLKD

Everything must eventually come to an end, and sadly this includes the years of partnership between sociopolitical rappers Calix and BLKD.

Like parting announcements usually go, Calix took to Facebook to share the surprising news, citing personal differences as a reason for the end of the partnership. “Matapos ang maraming usapan, at matapos ko pag-isipang mabuti. Malungkot kong ipinapaalam na hinihiwalay ko na ang pangalang CALIX kay BLKD,” the rapper wrote.

(After a series of conversations and after thinking about things clearly, I am saddened to bear the news that I will now separate the name CALIX from BLKD.)

Although he made it clear that they had a “good run,” the artist continued: “Pero dahil sa personal differences, kailangan kong lumayo.”

(But because of personal differences, I need some distance.)

CALIX’s statement ended with well wishes for the latter. He also asked fans for continuous support for their future endeavors as individuals.

The duo’s last performance was their recent UP Los Baños February Fair Day 3: Paglaum stint.

The pair was most known for their gritty political work under the 2019 heavy research-backed hip-hop effort “KOLATERAL,” which tackled the infamous war on drugs under the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte. This was not the duo’s first rodeo—in 2017, they also worked together on “Di Matitinag,” created in the context of Ferdinand E. Marcos’ burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in 2016.

As of writing, BLKD is yet to issue a response while Calix’s announcement has earned thousands of reactions from fans.
