Bright and flashy decorations will once again adorn the streets around Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) on the first weekend of February. You know what it is; it’s been an annual tradition since 2004—Pasinaya Open House Festival.
For the unacquainted ones, Pasinaya is the country’s largest multi-arts festival where people get to see shows in various art forms for two days. For only P50 (which they consider a donation), attendees could indulge in music, theater, dance, visual arts, film, and literature. This year, it will be on Feb. 3 and 4.
Here’s what you should look forward to at Pasinaya:
Workshops
The first half of Pasinaya is called Palihan a.k.a. Workshop-All-You-Can on Feb. 3, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It’s where attendees of all ages with varied interests could sit in more than 40 short workshops conducted by leading artists and companies.
To those who are into dancing, Ferdinand “Bong” Jose of the Bayanihan National Folk Dance Company will teach folk dance staging. The Music Zone has a singing workshop with the Philippine Madrigal Singers. Learn how to write Baybayin with cultural researcher Leo Emmanuel Castro.
Shows
Palabas is the second half of Pasinaya, which will be on Feb. 4. From 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., attendees will get a preview of what the CCP and its resident companies have for us this year. Expect performances from Ballet Philippines, Philippine Madrigal Singers, Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, and Tanghalang Pilipino among others. Art exhibits and film showings will also grace the halls and theatres of the complex.
Shows outside the CCP
The CCP’s partner museums and galleries will be open for Pasinaya visitors, too. Thirty hop-on-hop-off vans will be provided so they can conveniently go to:
