Boracay is closing on Apr. 26, President Rodrigo Duterte announced yesterday. He approved the recommendation of Departments of Environment and Natural Resources, Interior and Local Government, and Tourism to shut the island down for six months for rehabilitation.
Along with the world-class tourist spot’s closedown is the half a year-suspension of businesses in the island and loss of livelihood for almost 40,000 workers.
And that’s one less gem for us, one less summer destination.
But luckily for us, our archipelago offers many other beaches to visit especially this season. They may or may not be on par with Boracay. Be the judge.
