Not all hope is lost in local cinema. While much has been said about the last Metro Manila Film Fest, period dramas are forging their own path. Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral (2018), Jerrold Tayog’s follow up to Heneral Luna (2015), was made available in DVD format in December (and soon on Netflix), and just recently, another historical production about President Manuel L. Quezon won big at the Cinema World Fest Awards (CFWA) Autumn Selection.
The movie produced by Star Cinema and streaming service iWant, tells of the story of how the late president provided refuge for fleeing Jews during the Nazi regime and stars Raymund Bagatsing as Quezon and Rachel Alejandro as his wife, Aurora. Both took home the award for Excellent Actor and Actress, respectively.
Quezon’s Game’s Matthew Rosen, a veteran commercial director with over 900 credits to his name, received the Award of Recognition for Directing.
The production also garnered recognition for original score, sound design, screenplay, lighting, color treatment, costuming, and set design.
Its next course will be to compete with the rest of the CWFA selections from past seasons for the prestigious CWFA Trophy this year.
Quezon’s Game is set to premiere and stream locally this year.
