Aren’t you loving the new influencer, January’s It girl, Marie Kondo? The Japanese tidying guru is a ray of sunshine in this sad, chaotic world (where Rodrigo Duterte is still the president) if you poor souls haven’t heard of her. She now hosts a reality home makeover show on Netflix called Tidying Up with Marie Kondo, where she helps American households declutter using the Konmari Method.
Konmari encourages tidying by category and not by location. You can start with clothes, books, papers, miscellaneous items, and sentimental items. You’re only supposed to keep things that “spark joy,” the Konmari magic word, and discard those that don’t speak to the heart. Before letting them go, thank them for their service they’ve given to you (this practice is rooted from the Japanese’s Shintoism beliefs.)
“When you put your house in order, you put your affairs, and your past in order, too,” writes Kondo in her 2014 book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying. “As a result, you can see quite clearly what you need and what you don’t, and what you should and shouldn’t do.
This positive outlook on tidying up made most people take a second look at their abodes and examine what they still need in their life and don’t. If you’re one of them, you might now have a mountain of pre-loved items you don’t know how to dispose of. Let us help you with that. Here are places you can donate them:
Old clothes and underwear
New and gently-used bras, individually-sealed tampons and maxi pads
