Designer James Reyes passes away at 48

Designer James Reyes passed away earlier today, Mar. 16, at the age of 48. The news was confirmed by the Fashion and Design Council of the Philippines via a Facebook post.

Reyes worked in advertising his whole life until he ventured out to fashion in 2004, where he later made a name for himself in designing costumes and women’s wear. His eye-catching and graphic designs became his signature, drawing inspiration from Japanese designers such as Issey Miyake.

He was also the costume designer of some plays such as Ballet Philippines’ award-winning production entitled the “Blue Moon Series” in 2014 and “San Andres B.,” an opera about Andres Bonifacio in 2013. He’s only gotten into men’s wear design fairly recently but nevertheless, he became bespoke menswear brand Bergamo’s creative director last year.
