BLACK-and-white finale

Taking inspiration from mixology—“the art of preparing mixed drinks”—The Ramp Crossings showcased at the  Philippine Fashion Week (PFW) a concoction of pieces in paisley and zebra prints, pastels and florals, giving the Holiday 2012 collection a summer-y flavor.

Held May 22, The Ramp Crossings opened the first day of PFW in Hall 2 of the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.

Opening the show (directed by Robby Carmona; styled by Daryl and Andre Chang) was a dramatic, double-door opening of The Ramp Crossings’ “store,” a black-and-white façade complete with a mannequin display used as backdrop on the runway. Up first was a black-and-white ensemble, with sleeveless peplum top and sheer maxi skirt cinched at the waist by a peplum belt.

PAISLEY scarf adds a feminine touch to this ensemble.

What followed was a barrage of paisley (and more peplum) for the women: romper and skinny pants in metallic gold; striking blue long-sleeves top with shoulder cut-outs and pencil skirt; black beaded maxi dress.

There were also pants, jacket, maxi dress in zebra print; sheer long skirts and shirtdresses.

Not to be overshadowed were the shoes, mostly four-inch-high wedges, booties and pumps in bright colors. Pointed flats came in black, cream, white and yellow, all with gold-capped toe detail.

LIGHT blue braided belt on white-andorange combo

Menswear line Mundo had a softer palette of pastels, mostly in blue, orange and yellow. Quirky accessories, such as braided belts, paisley hat, scarf and slippers, added flair to the otherwise casual line.

Adding a playful touch to the show—and collecting applause from the audience—were “mini versions” of the male and female models, the young fashionistas who proudly walked down the runway wearing The Ramp Kids creations.

This meant more paisley, plus florals, on cute frocks, tops and pants for the girls; and an equally casual set of polo shirts and shorts for the boys.

Just like in the opening, The Ramp Crossings closed the show with black-and-white outfits—with big, bold lines and swirls paired with sheer midi skirt for the ladies; and on the gents, what looked like winter tuxedos, with skinny pants and long-sleeved sweater over collared shirt.
