How to have young-looking skin–at 30 and beyond

At 23 years old and petite, I cringe when others ask if I’m still in high school, or even—to my dismay—grade school. In hopes of having the appearance of a sophisticated lady rather than a naive schoolgirl, I actually look forward to turning 30.

Looks aside, I’ve always had this notion that 30-year-olds have reached a balance between maturity and youth. I look to my 30something-year-old friends with much respect as they seem to be more certain of themselves and a lot wiser than, say, a 23-year-old who’s only starting to get the hang of things.

With beauty rooted in personality as much as in appearance, even research shows that a woman in her 30s is considered more attractive than a fresh-faced teen or a trendy 20-year-old.

But then, woman also want to slow down the telltale signs of skin aging (yes, women want to have their cake and eat it too). As it’s impossible to turn back the clock to that time when your skin was in tiptop shape, women need trusty tools to keep wrinkles and age spots at bay.

Skincare tips

AGOO Bengzon

To address the main concerns of skin aging, Vaseline recently launched its Perfect 10 Whitening and Anti-Aging lotion. It is the brand’s first and only product that reduces fine lines, lightens skin, reduces dark spots and gives UVA/UVB protection.

With ingredients such as Vitamin B3 and CLA, skin tone is evened out and age spots and hyperpigmentation are reduced. To correct fine lines and wrinkles, retinol stimulates collagen production; AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) exfoliates dead skin cells; and antioxidants protect skin against free-radical damage.

At the media launch, the brand’s endorser Daphne Oseña-Paez shared her experience with skin aging and a few tips on skincare.

As skin aging is affected by factors such as lifestyle and nutrition, Daphne is adamant about sticking to a healthy lifestyle, slathering on some sunblock and Vaseline lotion, and seeking cover under her umbrella to protect her skin from the sun’s harmful effects.

Perhaps we 20-somethings could learn a thing or two from successful women in their 30s, who not only emanate beauty from within, but also look as fit as a fiddle.

Successful ladies share what they like most about being in their 30s

“Realizing that life is not as complicated as you thought when you were in your 20s. The freedom of knowing you can’t rely on other people where your happiness is concerned, and that on any given day, you can still feel 5 inches taller (minus the killer heels!) when you will it.”—Stef Cabal, Inquirer  2bU subsection editor and Look magazine editor in chief

“I love the confidence that comes with experience, maturity, and an increased sense of self-awareness, yet still tinged with youth, curiosity and excitement.”—Amina Aranaz-Alunan, Inquirer Lifestyle columnist and bag designer

“Now that I’m in my 30s, I feel wiser, more confident, and capable of accomplishing greater things.”—Agoo Bengzon, Summit Media beauty director

“Independence and wisdom gained from experience.”—Kat Cruz, Look magazine fashion editor

“When I hit my 30s, I learned to completely accept my strengths and flaws and the woman I turned out to be. I learned to face life and others maturely and with a more self-assured attitude.”—Happy Lopez, Cosmopolitan magazine associate fashion editor
