A free dormitory in Cubao, Quezon City for health care frontliners was announced to the public today Mar. 26 by Vice President Leni Robredo.
The initiative is a collaboration between the Office of the Vice President and its Angat Buhay (the office’s poverty program) partners. In Robredo’s Facebook announcement of the dormitory’s opening, she says that she hopes they could at least take some weight off frontliners’ shoulders by giving them a convenient place to stay: “Sa pagsisimula ng inisiyatibong ito, umaasa kami na makapagbigay ng kahit kaunting ginhawa para sa ating mga magigiting na frontliners na walang sawa sa paglilingkod sa ating mga kababayan.”
However, due to limited space, the dormitory will operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested persons can send their inquiries and information details such as their complete name, gender, the hospital or organization they work for, their position and work shift as well as their current home address to ovpfreedormservice@gmail.com or 0998-5917408.
The dorm will serve as temporary shelter for a number of frontliners amid the month-long Luzon-wide community quarantine due to the COVID-19 crisis.
As of writing, Robredo’s office has also collected over P30.1 million worth of donations from allocations to her office and from donation drives led by the Kaya Natin! Movement—all of which will be used to provide 65,896 personal protective equipment (PPE) to at least 4,393 frontline workers.
