Pancake cereal is TikTok’s latest food obsession

The reign of Dalgona coffee and sourdough bread has come to an end as the TikTok community stumbles upon yet another food trend to try. Meet pancake cereal, the newest drool-worthy yet easy-to-make dish taking over the Internet.

Perfect for breakfast lovers looking for the next trend to feature on their ‘gram, this “new” twist to pancakes is actually just a tinier, cereal-sized version of it. All that matters is that these bite-sized pancakes fit in a bowl, which TikTok users are achieving by putting regular pancake batter into a squeeze bottle and squeezing coin-sized amounts of it onto their frying pans.

For those who don’t have squeeze bottles in their kitchens, piping bags or plastic bags with one corner cut off is also an option. Reusing clean bottles of squeezable ketchup or other condiments can also work, as well as simply using a spoon to put a dollop of batter onto the pan.

It does take patience to make this new food trend though, because making smaller portions of pancakes and laying them out on the pan would take more time and effort than cooking regular-sized pancakes.

Aside from the mini pancake aesthetic, netizens are also making pancake cereals more delectable by adding in flavors and decorations. For pure-blood pancake lovers, drizzling this breakfast treat with syrup—may it be maple, chocolate or strawberry—or honey and adding in a block of butter has been the way to go.

Meanwhile, among the most famous creative variations of this trend is the funfetti pancake cereal, which can be made by putting sprinkles on top of the batter while it’s being cooked on the pan.

Others are also splashing colors on their mini pancakes using food coloring, and it has led to rainbow-looking bowls that make the treat even more enticing.

Chocolate Nutella and red velvet pancake cereals are also some of the flavors that the TikTok community is currently loving. Aside from the regular batter and cocoa powder, you only need warm Nutella and powdered sugar for chocolate Nutella and red food coloring, cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, milk and vanilla extract for red velvet pancake cereals and their toppings.

Our favorites, however, are the ones that have infused fruits into their pancake cereal bowl. Among netizens’ favorites to add in their pancake cereals are strawberries, blueberries and slices of banana—which almost remind us of acai bowls.
