‘Mula Sa Buwan’ to return to the stage in 2021

While live theater has taken a hit due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, theater companies continue to adapt through online programs. Many are also starting to look forward. While companies like Tanghalang Pilipino and Repertory Philippines have already announced that their regular season will resume in 2021, Black Box Productions’ cult favorite Filipino musical adaptation of “Cyrano de Bergerac,” “Mula Sa Buwan,” just announced that the musical is set to return to the stage next year.

It will be 10 years since the first iteration of “Mula Sa Buwan,” a thesis play by Pat Valera, then entitled “Cyrano: Isang Sarsuwela.” In the months leading up to the 2021 rerun, events, specials and other content will be released, the “Mula Sa Buwan” creators said on their Facebook announcement.

“Mula Sa Buwan” is an adaptation of “Cyrano de Bergerac,” set in 1940s Manila. There has yet to be word on the cast for the 2021 run.

Songs from and inspired by “Mula Sa Buwan” have also recently been made available on YouTube via performances from the monthly One Night Stand Cabaret. Official songs have also been made available on their official website.
