You may think that a belt is a simple must-have in your closet to keep your jeans in place and cinch your waist while wearing a dress. We could also agree that a good statement one can add more life to any ensemble.
To quote PopSugar, “belts never actually went anywhere.” But when you see designers incorporating them in collections, trendsetters like Kendall Jenner tucking her shirt with a Gucci belt, and former First Lady Michelle Obama making them her signature accessory since day one, you know a trend is on the rise.
Recent runways are showing an abundance of these statement belts in different colors, lengths, and size of buckle. Gucci got our attention with their a brown leather belt and fierce cat buckle. While Altuzarra has a more feminine take with a printed fabric belt and intricate crest-like buckles.
Studs also play a role in Alexander McQueen and Monse’s collections. Eva Chen even spotted the latter at the front row of New York Fashion Week.
Meanwhile, Oscar de la Renta and Proenza Schouler have a more toned-down and skinny approach. The former played with pastel hues and the latter simply used geometric designs to accessorize their Resort 2017 collection.
The corset-style belt is also proving to be a stylish contender. WhoWhatWear Australia spotted this after Christina Centenera styled Kim Kardashian with it for Vogue Australia. Also when Prada came up with their lace-up denim bustier for their autumn/winter `16 collection.
Likewise, The Row and 3.1 Phillip Lim showcased this accessory in black and white. For something more colorful, Anna Sui’s velvet belt is embroidered with a big purple rose and is also a sold-out item on Net-a-Porter right now.
Never mind that Donatella Versace came up with the boob belt at London Fashion Week last year. We’ll choose a classic belt with an elevated twist at any day.
